Mangalore Pub Violence : Women Commission startling finding

Posted in society with tags , on January 31, 2009 by saffrongeek

Was the Victims really victims of assault  or was gals addressed right by the assualters : ‘Pro*****utes’

NDTV bring us the truth and let us know what was happening in there actually. Hope you would show the same aggressiveness as before 😀

Wow!! That was a nice finding from the women commission who visited the mangaloe pub which was attacked few days back. The Pub had not followed the license guidelines and there was a sheer security lapse.

Pub had license to server food and liquor to its hotel inmates but the girls or the ‘so-called’ victims were not staying as guests in the hotel. The pub claims they were staying at the hotel though their records does not support this statement.

If the above pub owners statement is true and Girls NDTV stage statement that – ‘ we were having some nice fun time’ is to be read together , it seems they were unwinding themselves in the pub after a very committed FUN TIME inside the hotel.

Mr. Chief Minister, people and media who were shouting at you for not being serious , show them how damn serious you are with this issue and how strong you would act upon the PUB. Ball is in your court .. Play it well . Wishes 🙂

Ubuntu : Error deleting files from Trash

Posted in Linux, Technical with tags , on January 30, 2009 by saffrongeek

I was not able to delete and i thought some ownership or rights issue. So i tried to locate trash.

saffrongeek@saffrongeek-laptop:/$ cd ~/.Trash
bash: cd: /home/saffrongeek/.Trash: No such file or directory

Locate trash actually got me the location and it was here as below:
saffrongeek@saffrongeek-laptop:/$ cd /home/saffrongeek/.local/share/Trash/

Now this helps :

saffrongeek@saffrongeek-laptop:~/.local/share/Trash/files$ sudo rm -rf *

I came across a need to export a dump and modify the table names and import it back to another db and i needed to take care of character encoding as well. so had to find for ubuntu equivalent for notepad++. Notepad++ do have a Linux equivalent and in fact it is said the Win version is based on it, actually.

In your command prompt type the following to have it in your linux box:

sudo apt-get install scite
Once done, you could find the editor in Applications->Programming->Scite Text Editor
Note: Do try ‘geany’ as well

Mangalore Pub Violence: For the better I should say

Posted in society with tags , , , on January 27, 2009 by saffrongeek

This had been a quick one and obviously lots of  grammer or typing mistakes would be there 🙂

Mangalore had been on the news for fifth day now and the highlight is some youths attacked a pub and assaulted few gals in the pub. Added the coverage was asking the question again and again: Is Mangalore getting talibanized. With the mangalore incident , Let me now pull out some areas to share my thoughts or for media to help us viewers some answer

#0. When drinking had been a issue for family break ups, suffering of many women in our country , does it sound fine to see ladies themselves taking to drinking. what values they are going to pass on to their children? What should we expect of our nations future when we got youth as majority population.

#1. As a viewer, I would also like to know details of the girls who were assualted in the public. Details in the sense, their occupation, age etc. If student, I would be much more curious to know their parents thought. Do they know where their children was spending the pocket money? Did channels check with the victims parents (not just parents ) to know their thoughts ?

#2. Would the girls assaulted come forward and face the camera to share their experience rather show their backs for us ? If they feel, they were having nice time and did nothing wrong, why dont they feel bold enough to share face to face with million of viewers. Also, to the reporter, stop doing melodrama expressions.

#3. How come the media was so ready to take the aggressive unexpected attack to be recorded for a nice 1 week converage?

#4. Doesnt the camera person be also questioned before the court / law for not informing the police authorities to prevent the assualt?

#5. Media blaming the government just because it is BJP running the state affairs fair? Is congress ruled Maharastra safe?

#6. Church and Nuns are attacked even in my state Kerala , and just two days back an incident had occurred with culprits being christians.

#7. In kerala, same video footage and a survey found 55% expressing concern over the incident but near to same 45% saying it was to an extent right.

#8. Is this assualt pre planned for media to do aggressive highlighting and the reporters facial expression while victim shared her ordeal felt artificial, purely staged drama sort.

Few years back, I too was one of those guys who get gals to pub, get a few bottles of beer under the belly , some foot works to njoy background score and ooz out some ‘nice time’ with gals. It was in bangalore where I changed, when I had got my mother and sister joining me for my mother’s medical checkup. For the sake of a timepass chit chatting, I got mom and sis to Jayanagar 4th T block Cafe Coffee day. Well, in just minutes we had to exit. A couple sitting in the couch were smooching publicly much to the discomfort of many. Well , this experience actually made me rethink. From that day, I never ever did anything which I myself would not approve someone else to do and make me feel uncomfortable. But that day, that moment when I was with my mother and sis, I was getting so angry and controlled that, if I had blasted, I would have kicked their brains out.

My take on it is that, ‘Good , happened for the better’ though I dont approve violence. Like the way some of us dont do sin fearing God, some of us dont do stuffs fearing law, there should also be some fear of unexpected community policing (if not culture policing). I am sure, get the victims parents and victims to face the camera, things would get much clearer. 😉

One thing i would add here, am i mixing my thoughts with public place ( family spots ) sexual acts to private spots ( like bars or pubs ).. ? well might be 😀 Why I said sexual acts not drinking is that mangalore has always been a education center and students just dont seem that mature. As far as I know, any where say for eg:- summerland or someshwar beaches or any place to sneak in, sex and fun is what students mean with ‘good time’ or some ‘fun time’.

Man, one star entrprenuer lady NDTV interviewed who says herself as mother was so cool arguing that If I dont bother what my daughter is doing why should the world be. My thought to her is , let she be dont care for her children, let her children drink and sleep with anyone, but I would not like my family or near and dear ones be affected with one rotten child of hers.

OrangeHRM Integration

Posted in mysql, PHP, Technical with tags , , , on January 20, 2009 by saffrongeek

Purpose of this post is to leave some insights in to the possible simple integration to have a single sign on system up which would work within the realms of the custom or third party application you might be already using.

Scenario: OrangeHRM  needs to be integrated to the architecture of  Health related clinic website done in HTML + PHP + MySQL. The orangehrm doesnt need any user management functionalities and the users in the clinic website would be admin and accessible group for orangehrm.

Integration Efforts guideline:
1. Third Party Application Architecture:
The Application had an architecture where the classess comprised mainly of system classess and is instantiated with autoload. The core functionals were modulared and supporting system functionals like system, user, module classes in the includes, and a library of function files. The first was to extend the modular hook to my wrapper module for orangehrm from the module, action call request from the user.

Module Wrapper actually handled the request, created the sub menus for the orangehrm and loaded a frame with request. Login and Install redirection needed to be stripped and so I added a hook to the index file for connecting the orangehrm database and tables and creating the required sessions. Change Password, Add User, Edit User were all removed ( made hidden ) as integration needed to work as single sign-on.

2. Autoload  on instantiation on fly in clinic system came as a stumble block but it was overcome by adding the below class to system class directory for use for all plugins or 3rd party applications that is going to be integrated.
class sys_bot {
private $classes = array (
‘Conf’ => “modules/orangehrm/lib/confs/Conf.php”,
public $Conf; // Accessible by other classes

public function __construct($load=false){
foreach($load as $class){
$this->$class = new $class($this);
} else {
foreach($this->classes as $class => $path){
$this->$class = new $class($this);

3. Clinic User Manager
Add , Edit , Delete User in clinic would include a wrapper action files to populate the users as admin in the orangehrm.
Add Action:
Clinic system creates the user on user add form submission
The orangehrm conf file in lib/confs/conf.php is checked for existence
If yes, include the add wrapper.
Add Wrapper file should prepare the connection to insert the user as alphanumeric ‘USRXXX’ indexed with submitted data to user table
We need to hold on the mysql_insert_id to get clinic system user insertion id for use in orangehrm insertion.

Edit and Delete Action :
Edit and Delete Action in the custom clinic system was based on the user ID
I prefered to make use of the username and had to retrieve the username to make use of as edit was opening up the user username and password also for editing.
Same with delete action.

4. To cross check the Logged in user in clinic who was automatically tried to log in to the hrm but added to module access check, we restricted the user to role provision in the clinic system with a XML file. This XML file was a dump build from the clinic system and comprised of the role name and roleid. This XML file is included and parsed with the core wrapper file while the session settings in the wrapper takes driver seat.
