Notepad++ and Ubuntu

I came across a need to export a dump and modify the table names and import it back to another db and i needed to take care of character encoding as well. so had to find for ubuntu equivalent for notepad++. Notepad++ do have a Linux equivalent and in fact it is said the Win version is based on it, actually.

In your command prompt type the following to have it in your linux box:

sudo apt-get install scite
Once done, you could find the editor in Applications->Programming->Scite Text Editor
Note: Do try ‘geany’ as well

  1. I am more of a fan of Geany myself. I believe both Geany and Notepad++ use Scintilla in the editor.
